Would you like to reduce forgetfulness, enhance your heart health, prevent further bone loss and lose weight while boosting your immune system? Drink a glass of wine a day and you may gain all of these benefits.
Alcohol raises HDL, the good cholesterol. HDL helps unclog arteries. Unclogged arteries aids in circulation and good circulation help prevent clots and reduce blood vessel inflammation. Thus, cognitive decline is reduced and so is heart disease.
According to Health.com “people who drink wine daily have lower body mass than those who indulge occasionally; moderate wine drinkers have narrower waists and less abdominal fat than people who drink liquor. Alcohol may encourage your body to burn extra calories for as long as 90 minutes after you down a glass. Beer seems to have a similar effect.” Furthermore, research conducted in Korea and published in The Journal of Biological Chemistry in 2012 found that red grapes contain a compound known as piceatannol which can block the cellular process developing fat cells. The study concludes that piceatannol could be used as a “weapon against weight gain.”
Studies have also found that individuals that drank a moderate amount of wine a day have higher bone density than those that don’t consume at all.
As for a fun fact about wine, the wines of Europe are named after the regions in which they are grown. Examples of such places are Bordeaux, Sancerre, Burgundy etc… In the United States we often refer to our wines as a Cabernet, Chardonnay, Riesling, and so on. My mother always says that the key to life is moderation. The older I get the more I know how correct this statement is. And it holds true for more than just wine consumption.
Let’s have a toast to good health, good friends, and family.
