Anytime construction begins people in a community begin talking The Village of Bedford Walk construction is fast underway, with men working early in the morning until late afternoon. The entire 88 home community is beginning to form quickly and the city of Columbia is buzzing with excitement about the details of this senior living community.

Construction of apartment homes and villas will encourage new people to move to Columbia and become a positive and contributing part of the local economy. Pharmacies will benefit from this new population as will doctors, physical therapist and dentist. Dog groomers and veterinarians are also aided by the pet friendly residents. Movie theatres, theatrical groups and churches will all see a surge in attendance due to new individuals living in town. Grocery stores, home furnishing shops and restaurants will find themselves with new customers.
According to US New and World Report~ Money by 2030, the over-65 crowd will expand to 72 million people, up from 40 million in 2010. According to a 2012 report from the Federal Agency Forum, the number of senior citizens living in poverty has declined from 15 percent to 9 percent since the mid-1970s, while the proportion of older Americans enjoying a “high income” increased from 18 to 31 percent.
While older adults may not be out dancing at clubs and purchasing video games, they are buying personal care items, clothing, eating out and traveling. All of this is great for any economy, in Columbia and nationwide the positive effects of a new community like The Village of Bedford Walk are limitless.
