Purses and Passions Fundraising Event
All of us wish to live in a safer, kinder world but only some of us are actually taking action to make that happen. True North of Columbia, Missouri is one such organization. Their mission is to, “Provide a safe environment by educating, empowering and advocating for victims of domestic and sexual violence. And, to affect social change by providing opportunities for individuals to participate in the community’s responsibility to end domestic and sexual violence.”
This organization takes a three pronged approach to ending violence; shelter, counseling and outreach. The shelter provides a safe place for victims to flee from their abuser. The toll free hotline provides referral information and emotional support , as well as, safety planning twenty four hours a day, seven days a week. Additional resident services are crisis intervention, counseling, case management, life skills, children’s programs and support groups. Individual counseling is offered to residents of the shelter and to non-residential clients of the agency. This one -on -one session is to assist individuals in meeting personal goals and to help begin the healing process. Weekly support groups are also offered for survivors to share and provide encouragement and solace. Community outreach is a vital part of what True North does and they begin with civic groups, churches, businesses, and service providers.
We, at the Village of Bedford Walk, learned about this very worthy cause from a member of our community, Karen Hayes, our Move- in Specialist. Ms. Hayes commented that “For the past three years I have been involved with True North, predominantly in the fundraising and networking aspect on behalf of the charity.”
On Thursday, October 8th at The Country Club of Missouri the Eighth Annual Purses & Passions Around the World will be held. Light appetizers and wine will be served while the ladies enjoy an enchanting evening of shopping for purses. The Village of Bedford Walk is a proud supporter of this organization and will attend the event with our new residents. Every woman loves a new handbag so consider buying a $30.00 ticket to attend this important event. Look for a beautiful, red Kate Spade tote and key chain donated by The Village of Bedford Walk, and then bid. This is a worthy cause.
Women helping women! What could be more powerful? Join us for an evening full of laughter, new friends and raising money for those on our team that need us. We hold the key to the change that the world needs.
