Columbia’s Farmers Market

 In Uncategorized

With spring weather finally here, the urge to get out and enjoy it is growing in all of us. One of the best ways to enjoy your day in the sun, is to visit one of Columbia’s local farmers markets. Not only is strolling the booths and taking in the sights and smells of fresh produce a great way to spend a day, studies have shown that fresh vegetables straight from the field contain more vitamins and taste better than those that sit in trucks for days before making it to your supermarket shelves. And the markets in Columbia offer so much more than fruits and veggies; honey, fresh bread, cheese, organic meat, fresh-cut flowers, artisan goods, artwork and much more are available for purchase, or even just a good round of window shopping, without the windows.

Columbia Farmers Market

Saturdays 8 a.m. to Noon

ARC Parking Lot, 1701 W Ash St.

With dozens of vendors selling every kind of farm-fresh produce imaginable, the Columbia Farmers Market makes it easy to find some of the best tasting, healthiest food in the area. All of the booths here are run by the producers, which means every ripe tomato, every loaf of freshly baked bread, and every jar of honey you buy, is sold to you by the person who made it. This market is also open mid-week on Wednesday afternoons at the ARC parking lot and Thursday afternoons at the Forum Christian Church.
Market open now through October.

Boone County Farmers Market

Saturdays 8 a.m. to Noon

Columbia Mall Parking Lot, near Sears

This is a smaller market, but it still offers access to over 20 producers who are making and growing some of the best tasting food you can find in the area. Make sure to come back later in the summer for local sweet corn and peaches.

Market open weekly April 16 through October 29.

Orr Street Farmers and Artisans Market

Sundays 9 a.m to 1 p.m.

Wabash Bus Station Parking Lot, Orr St. Downtown

While the other markets in town also feature artisans selling their wares, this is the only market in town where craft goods, jewelry and artwork get equal weight alongside the produce. Located downtown, this is the perfect place to do some gift shopping while picking up some tasty veggies. And stay downtown to check out some of the many great events hosted there throughout the spring, summer and fall.

Market open weekly April through October.
